#222 Take a Break When Needed

Take a break when needed

It is good to take a break from writing when you get frustrated. When you are frustrated it is hard to concentrate as well as it is hard to be creative. Some good indicators that you need a break are: questioning what you are doing is right, you’re feeling depleted of fresh ideas, you’re stuck with no idea for what’s next, you’ve stopped doing anything but feel guilty for doing nothing. When you get up and take a break, it helps clear your mind for a fresh start. This way when you come back to your paper you have a clear mind. One example of an activity to do while you are taking a break is going for a walk. Even if it is a short fifteen minute walk, it will help put your mind at ease. Walking and other types of exercises also help relieve stress. When you are stressed out it is hard to concentrate and be creative. Taking a walk relieves stress as well as giving you time to refocus. Another tip I have read about is drawing pictures. Sometimes drawing the thoughts on your mind helps relieve stress. Even if they are silly drawings or stick figures, it helps relieve the mind of frustration and stress. This can also help spark new ideas for your paper and help you stay on track. Another thing that can help relieve stress is writing down your emotions. If you are frustrated, then writing about it will actually help relieve it. Sometimes you may even have other life stressors that are “bogging” you down from your creativity. Simply writing down your feelings and daily problems helps the mind resolve them and in turn leaves more room for creativity.
