What do you think the most common error is for anyone writing a paper? Another question goes with the previous question. What is the most common way to bring your grade down on a paper? Those two questions can go hand in hand. The most common errors have to do with people not understanding how to use commas. Whether it is a simple comma with a conjunction, or it is an introductory clause, many people don’t realize that they are making errors. Even people who know how to use commas can make a mistake rather easily. So would it really hurt to learn how to use them? Personally that was my high school teacher’s pet peeve so it was drilled into me. They aren’t as hard as most people make them. Now I can spot most comma errors. They can completely alter a sentences meaning. That is shown in the picture below.
Haha, do you get it? They were going to eat their grandpa in the first line versus the second line they wanted to tell him they should eat. That shows what I said earlier about changing sentence meaning. Then there are the commas that don’t necessarily change the meaning, but show that the sentence is connected to another sentence. If you don’t put commas in between a bunch if complete sentence then it is like when people in real life spit out twenty sentences without taking a breath. It is annoying right. Well that what I believe English teachers feel like when they see those kinds of errors.
