When writing a research paper it is helpful if you gather as much information about your topic that you possibly can. The part of a research paper that should take the longest is researching before the paper. Once you have decided your topic the next step should be collecting as many sources for your topic that you can. You should know everything there is to know about your topic. When it comes time to write it will be much easier to sift through all the information you have instead of trying to stretch a little amount of info into the paper. After collecting all the info it is much easier to sit down and cut things that are not important out than it is to try and make unimportant information become the main sources in your paper. You need to become a “nerd” about your topic. You need to research it religiously. Also while you are researching you need to be taking notes on the sources. You should summarize them and add your own words and opinions to incorporate them into your paper. This process definitely should not start the night before the paper is due. The process of researching should be done weeks before you actually start writing the paper. When it comes time to write your paper all you should have to do is rearrange notes on your sources to create a final paper. The research for the paper can be the actual writing in your paper. If you take decent notes and do a great deal of researching it will be much easier to write your paper.
