Google is an excellent resource of information, and in today’s society it is often considered the only source of information, but there are a myriad of options available to students. The Internet may contain reputable articles yet anyone can contribute material to the Internet. Some of this information maybe false or it maybe incorrectly cited giving credit for information given by other individuals. It seems foolish for students to ignore other services available to them. Often these services are free of charge and may be provided by the university you attend.
The library offers access to periodicals with the purchase of a library card. These articles may seem outdated when compared to the Internet but this media is free from error and is provided by reputable authors and journalist. While the library’s collection is the most obvious source of an information a resource that often is often overlooked is the librarian. Often librarians are retired professors or are specifically trained to help students with research topics.
Reputable magazines and newspapers such as Time and the Washington Post can provide articles on a myriad of topics from reputable journalist. Many of these articles are available online and doesn’t require the purchase of an issue.
There are many archive on the Internet containing reliable information. EBSCO, LexisNexis, and InfoTrac all contain reliable up to date information.
One shouldn't limit themselves to the printed word. It is important to pick a topical subject . Often new organizations will cover these issues. Journalist will interview experts on the topic and discuss they're thoughts and opinions on the subject. Quoting these well known individuals is essential to your research paper.
