Everyone has typos, no matter how well of a writer you are. With those annoying typos comes huge embarrassment. Imagine sending what you thought was a very professional email just to look back at it and realize that it was filled with typos. Now-a-days, most email programs have a built in spell checker, but those don't always catch everything. An example of that would be if you said:
I would love two go to lunch with you tomorrow! Just let me no when!
Those sentences get the point across, but they are not using correct gramer (incorrect word spelling, even though they sound the same). People used to believe that simply reading your paper over would help you catch this typos, but now studies are showing that since you are the person who wrote it your brain is automatically fixing the mistakes. There is a fix to this! Just simply read your paper backwards. Do each sentence individually, or do each word individually. It makes your brain concentrate on each section that you are reading, and it makes the errors much more prevalent.
So remember, whenever you are writing anything let it be an email to a friend or on your doctoral dissertation, re-read it backwards! Make sure you are saving yourself from embarrassment and just read it backwards!
The source of some of my information came from this website.
